Good morning Friends

Don’t give a man food and drink for days,
Chances are, with life, he still can cope;
But, he’d certainly be found in a daze,
If you remove from his life all hope.
No one can live without love and hope,
Life can’t be like walking a tightrope.

No matter how bad can be one’s situation,
God gave one hope to see the silver lining;
It takes away the sting from all frustration,
Suddenly, in rain, you can see the sun shining.
No one can live without love and hope,

Many of us may not be, of it, totally aware,
But ‘Hope’ comes to us directly from God;
Life isn’t just for everyone, life is never fair,
But His divine justice we always applaud.

Thank you, God, for giving us a ray of light,
When things become for us very very dark;
Suddenly, Hope makes everything seem alright,
Suddenly, in the dullness, we see a spark.

Good morning Friends

Even though all virtues on earth are relative,
And there is no virtue that is really absolute,
We don’t need to consider this in the negative,
But think of our own stance in their pursuit.
Others will always be less or more happy than us,
But our being dependent on them is superfluous.

If at all we should stoop to compare,
It’d do us good to think of those who have less;
We should consider God gave us our rightful share,
What they have less, we might have in excess.
Being sad because they appear to have more,
Is to deliberately, our own blessings, ignore.

You can have, your virtue, of others, independent,
And let it not be dependent upon their reaction;
For example, your gentlemanliness can be dependent,
If you think of it always as a business transaction.
You can be gentlemanly to everyone around,
Irrespective of whether some return is to be found.

It is the same with Love, Courage, Honesty and Truth,
You can have these for everyone and in each situation,
Or else, you can try ‘an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth’,
And spend all your time in such silly calculation.
Be content with what you yourself possess,
Don’t ever think whether it is more or less.

….you can have yours independent of others.

When you think no one is watching….

Good morning Friends

When you think no one is watching you,
And you’re tempted to do something wrong;
There is someone who has the complete view,
It is there with you everywhere and lifelong.
It never ever goes to sleep,
And lo, you pay for its upkeep.

It is neither your enemy nor your friend,
It has longer lasting memory than anyone;
You can’t help listening to it in the end,
It has all the record of what you’ve done.
Finally when it looks you in the eye,
There is nothing that you can ever deny.

No one has ever been able to conquer over it,
Though people have tried to keep it under control;
In the end, everyone, at its feet would submit,
It is even the keeper of your heart and soul.
There is no way it can be deceived,
What you’ve done can’t be retrieved.

No security system that Man could ever devise,
Comes close to this fool-proof system of God;
How it works has always been a surprise,
Its findings and analysis are never flawed.
Do you still feel it can be cheated?
Well, you must be very conceited.

…..it keeps a record of everything you do.

When you are judgmental of people….

Good morning Friends

When you are, of the people, judgmental,
It is, if you care to consider, detrimental,
To maintaining good relations;
Without considering facts, it is accidental,
And may turn be an error monumental,
That shakes friendship’s foundations.

Being judgmental is merely to surmise,
That people are someone else in disguise,
And have oblique intentions;
Additionally, it shows how you despise,
Rather than understand and empathise,
Of their situation, all the dimensions.

Perceptions and judgments are tricks of the mind,
As later, when we have facts, we can find,
And then form a somewhat balanced view;
But, it certainly is nothing less than being unkind,
When you deliberately decide to be blind,
To the motives of a person and decide to misconstrue.

Lastly, lets talk about something we call fact,
We often sound as if we know it very exact,
But we have no knowledge of its interpretations;
It, therefore, pays not to very quickly react,
Such that your stand you cannot retract,
Whilst arriving at your biased allegations.

…..you are anything but a good judge.

How well and important God made each part of Man….

Good morning Friends

We keep joking about how imperfect is God’s Creation,
We particularly are critical about Man’s body,
It comes in for so much of our condemnation,
We joke that whilst creating Man His work was shoddy.
Only when something comes apart,
We realise the importance of each part.

Suddenly, what looked insignificant is now valued,
We realise its importance to the whole,
To think it was always with us but undervalued,
In its absence or its malfunction only we understand its role.
Only when something comes apart,
We realise the importance of each part.

God has done, we realise later, something great for us,
He made us as we are and left us to find our worth;
Some of us only end up making a lot of fuss,
Others, gradually, the importance of Life unearth.
Only when something comes apart,
We realise the importance of each part.

Life is truly worth living the way God has made,
We should be grateful to Him for having made it so;
We shouldn’t ever in our minds importance of it degrade,
Even when we are passing through Life’s low.
Only when something comes apart,
We realise the importance of each part.

…..We realise it only when it stops functioning.

Gym or walks?*….

Some like to go to gym, some like to go for walks,
I love the latter even though I am not orthodox.
The feel of the open space,
Puts spring in my pace,
Gym gives me the feel of being inside a box.

Other than cold machines there is nothing to see in a gym,
Whereas outdoors you can exercise both your soul and limb;
You see trees and flowers,
You can even walk in the showers,
The sight of birds in the sky fills your heart to the brim.

When you walk you watch the sunset or the sunrise,
You can look at green lands and the blueness of the skies,
You connect to Nature and God,
And sometimes you are overawed,
When you see something that is a pleasant surprise.

During walks everyday you experience something new,
Sometimes, around you, you can admire the view,
At others you look within,
And break into a grin,
When you discover the real person that is you.

……You see so many things during walks that you can never see in a gym.

Even more important than a clean house….

Good morning Friends

Even more important than a house that is clean,
Is to have a clean and uncluttered mind;
If it has to have junk of all the places it has seen,
When you want to, things it won’t be able to find.
God has given us ability to remember and forget,
Use each one not as a liability but as an asset.

Keeping your house in order is a lesser skill,
Than keeping the mind always fit and fine;
The first one with dust and grime can fill,
The latter often to bad memories can resign.
God has given us ability to remember and forget,

Many a times we swear at our mind for forgetting,
We give vent to enormous anger and frustration,
We find it like a betrayal of mind and upsetting,
And think that we have one that lacks concentration.

One useful trick to train mind to remember and forget,
Is to keep it functioning distinct from the heart;
Let the former be not of the latter a subset,
Let it follow not of the heart but its own flow-chart.

Good morning Friends

When you share your life with someone you love the most,
The angels gather around you and raise a toast,
The gods gaze from the sky above,
And look benignly at your love,
Are you in paradise you ask; the answer is yes, almost.

For every person God has already decided on one,
Who would be there for him or her in the long run,
That person you’d eventually find,
Know ye that gods are always kind,
At that time, life for you would have just begun.

So, always love this person as God’s gift to you,
Remember, God knew it even before you knew.
Life is short and passing,
Don’t look down on this blessing,
Do everything you can to let God’s wish come true.

Love is the basis of all human life on earth,
In this both man and woman realise their true worth.
So if love is gone,
And battle lines are drawn,
You’ve wasted a life that could’ve been full of mirth.

…..it has been ordained by God.

Good morning Friends,

God made you a very unique person,
He gave you something He didn’t give anyone;
So, by imitating, don’t let things worsen,
Just be yourself, the only one under the sun.
Imitation, my friend, is suicide,
Be yourself, be special, be dignified.

It is okay to have someone you admire,
It is alright even to acquire new talent and skill;
Yes, your heroes and role models may inspire,
But, copying someone is certainly going downhill.

Some people have more of something, some have less,
You have to discover what you are good at;
Your weaknesses shouldn’t cause you stress,
You too have something for which they’d raise their hat.

Good morning Friends,

Each one of us is born an individual who’s unique,
Yet, no one respects a person’s individuality anymore;
On Internet, for example, you’re tracked till you shriek,
For everything you do, they give you options to explore.
One-size-fits-all is the new catchphrase,
Intervention into privacy is a huge malaise.

Let alone your preferences, selections and choices,
They can now even track and predict your thought;
There is uproar around you, there are many voices,
You are always hassled, always made to be distraught.
Even for a minute they don’t leave you alone,
Your private life is almost becoming unknown.

With all suggestions and cues, constant do that and this,
You respond almost like puppets in a show;
There is no way these unwanted guests you van dismiss,
They are there with you wherever you go.
All that they want is your money and time,
Nothing works with them, no reason or rhyme.

‘Let me be by myself‘ sounds like a weak protest, 
But, I can visualise it growing into a strong clamour;
By this invasion of privacy people are getting stressed,
It is almost like being constantly under a hammer.

The courts are directing to cut out, eg,  invasive noise,
But, vested interests want to have their old evil ways;
Hasn’t one a right to privacy in his own house that he enjoys,
Or speakers, Internet and other means should ruin his days? 

….I respect your privacy, please respect mine.

Who we really are….

Good morning Friends,

The theme of my current music Fest is Kaun (Who),
It is a relevant question for both me and you,
It is easier to see who others are,
But, you really have to travel far,
To find, about your own identity, a suitable clue.

One identity is that you are someone’s daughter or son,
That is, attached to someone but of your own, none.
You can be a dad or brother,
A sister, aunt or a mother,
But, who you really are, by yourself, under the sun?

To find out who they really are, people have spent ages,
And it is not just true of the saints and the sages.
And it has not been a sudden revelation,
That has led to their own salvation,
But, it has come about gradually, in various stages.

Discovering who we really are makes us complete,
In Sri Guru Granth Sahib* it is given as ‘Man jeete jag jeet‘**.
You can’t hope to find life’s goal,
Without looking into your own soul,
Or without paying attention to your own heartbeat.

Takes us almost the whole life to find out….

*The holy book of the Sikhs that was ordained by the tenth and the last Guru Gobind Singh as the living guru.

**Conquer the mind to conquer the universe.

Good morning Friends,

So, you’re about to give up, you’ve had enough,
Life, you’ve concluded, has been rather tough.
Nothing seems to click,
You’re, of it, totally sick,
There appears to be no way out of the rough.

Failure appears to stare you in the face,
It would be nice to get out of the “rat-race“.
You want to call it a day,
And come what may,
You don’t want to live with failure and disgrace.

But, wait a minute, have you given a thought,
About what you had in the beginning sought?
Why should you give up now,
And take a hurried bow,
Why can’t you give it just one more shot?

How’d you know success is just a step away,
And life is waiting for you with a big bouquet?
You give up before the dawn,
But find the dark night has gone,
Won’t you actually regret it the very next day?

Hold on a little longer and please persevere,
Believe that your chosen goal is very near.
Yes, there is much pain,
And unstoppable rain,
But, wait for the colourful rainbow to appear.
 
….believe that you are close to the top.

The power of Love is infinite….

Good morning Friends,

Love is the most powerful of all emotions,
It is the strongest of all known potions.
When you are driven by love,
You always have God above,
You can climb mountains and cross oceans.

Say you are a leader with people you command,
And you have a near impossible task at hand;
Your love for your team,
Makes them see the silver beam,
And they make you feel that they do understand.

People have sacrificed lives in love of their nation,
We have viewed their feats with great admiration.
Even in the face of death,
And even up to their last breath,
Their love has given them unheard of inspiration.

Then they are others who love what they do,
They are men and women like me and you.
They look at the impossible,
And make it seem very possible,
Their love and passion always sees them through.

God gave us Love and in our hands put power,
He Himself has been Love’s beacon or tower.
He has shared our joys,
And given us great poise,
Whenever we’ve passed through the difficult hour.

…..just like God’s.

Good morning Friends,

With a massive increase in world’s population,
And amazing boom in means of communication,
Isn’t it a surprising and sad fact of our times,
That people feel more loneliness and alienation?

Everyone’s a photographer, actor, and writer*,
“You may be bright, but, of course, I’m brighter“,
Gone are the days when you could call a friend,
Share your sadness and concern and feel lighter.

The increased focus on self has done us all in,
With bigger bread, the butter has to spread thin,
People can spend loads of money on loved ones,
But to spend time with them is becoming a sin.

People are actually lonelier than ever before,
Some don’t know who is the neighbour next door,
Ever increasing numbers commit suicides now,
But, people don’t appear to care anymore.

Education, Friendship, everything is an investment,
I’ve seen people carrying out a careful assessment,
As to how much return would be there on each,
There is, therefore, always cause for resentment.

We certainly need to take corrective action,
And have more person to person interaction,
How strange it is at this stage we should take stock,
That cellphones, over people, have greater attraction?

….we need to do something here and now.

The key to good health is the Mind….

Good morning Friends,

You may feel it is in supplements,
Or in keeping a strict exercise regime;
You may also rely on medicines and ointments,
Or standing for hours in a Sunbeam.
But, one thing all of us ultimately find,
The secret to good health is in the mind.

Yes you can eat the right food,
And avoid all such curses as smoking,
But, it is your mind that decides your mood,
And that’s always health provoking.
And hence one thing all of us ultimately find,
The secret to good health is in the mind.

So, those with positive health always possess,
A mind that generates positive thought;
Mental well being is key to physical fitness,
Else everything can be reduced to naught.
No wonder one thing all of us ultimately find,
The secret to good health is in the mind.

Take care of it and keep it under control,
It can be your worst enemy or best friend,
If good all round health is your real goal,
Then a good healthy mind I strongly recommend.
Train it and you will always find,
There is nobody more faithful than your mind.

A Mind with positivity generates positive health….
