GOOD MORNING MESSAGE #265

Let alone advanced subjects….

Good morning friends,

If Right and Wrong were so easy to discern,
Why would the world see wars and conflicts?
The same lessons we learn and unlearn,
Many a Christ we still put on the crucifix.

Same is the case with Evil and Good,
We are more than sure of our own stand.
But, why is it that no one has understood,
How often, because of it, we get into quick-sand?

Next time when you are faced with the choice,
How about taking a little time to decide?
Delay your decision before you give it voice,
See to it that you have viewed each side.

Good and Evil, Right and Wrong,
Also depend upon time and place,
Even if, to decide, it seems to take long,
Do remember there is actually no race.

If not anything, please display the humility,
To accept that each is not writ in stone.
Everyone of us has his own view and ability,
That should be a society’s backbone.

….after thousands of years, we have still to sort out the basics.

I have done a long stint in the Indian Navy that lasted for nearly thirty seven years; I rose as far as my somewhat rebellious and irreverent nature allowed me to. On retirement, in Feb 2010, the first thing that occurred to me, and those around me, was that I Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (you will find an article with this title in this blog) and hadn't lost all my noodles and hence thought of a blog titled 'This 'n That'. I later realised that every third blog is called 'This 'n That' and changed the name to 'Sunbyanyname'. I detest treading the beaten track. This blog offers me to air 'another way' of looking at things. The idea is not just to entertain but also to bring about a change. Should you feel differently, you are free to leave your comments. You can leave comments even when you agree and want to share your own experience about the topic of the blog post. Impudent or otherwise, I have never been insousciant and I am always concerned about the betterment of community, nation and the world. I hope the visitors of this blog would be able to discern it.

  1. Dear Ravi Sahib,
On having read your GM #265
to be very Honest and Frank I wish to acknowledge my shortcoming that I lack apt vocabulary to appreciate this message as I really wish and Intend to do. The least I can say is superb, wow and amazing etc. etc.
Before I go further to writr my comments in detail as per my personal views which may not right or appealing to the readers, I wish to quote

As Albert Einstein has rightly said.

“We cannot solve our problems with the same level of thinking that created them”
From the above quote it is evidentially clear that we existing and past mortals on this plane have been thinking at the same level no matter how smartly, intellectually and seriously we might have been thinking to find an answers to various aspects enumerated in your serious and soul searching GM message #265.

You have very rightly mentioned in 1st stanza of your poem that for proving or resolving wrong and right issue many wars and conflicts have taken place. Besides –
many beheading, burning ,stoning and crucifixion of not only Christ and Socrates but numerous other RC saints have been horrifically been martyred and put to death for their faith. Similarly we we are well aware of SIKH history as to how SIKH Gurus and their followers were made to suffer untold, beyond measure and description of pain from worldly point of view. Besides many Muslim saints of central Asia have undergone horrifying punishment for their annihilation. Annals of history bear witness to such a barbarism committed by the rulers and majority of the society in dominance.
Let’s think and discuss more deeply to find answer and analyse as to why even after thousands of years, we have still to sort out the basics. To some extent and very rightly you have said in last but one stanza of you message — Good and Evil, Right and Wrong,
Also depend upon time and place.
This is also known factor that we rely too much for our knowledge or discriminating between Right vs wrong or Good vs Evil on our intellect. Our intellect is the right organ or faculty for knowing and discriminating aforesaid what is being experienced on our present plan only but our intellect is absolutely incapable of unveiling the hidden transdental truth, secrets and mysteries of the universe. You will agree, for this reason our knowledge and perspective keep changing continuously with time and place and position we hold. If our yardstick is variable then how can we rely on its measure? What our intellect finds right and true today, it may not do so tomorrow. Intellect give us theories and theories change from time to time.
To elaborate further once upon a time Heat was looked upon as something material, but later it was discovered to be purely energy. Similarly the ancients thought that sun moved around the earth, but it is common knowledge that the earth rotates round the sun. We might be right now but the fact remains that we were wrong at that time. Likewise numerous example can be quoted. This will suffice to say that intellect changes it’s pronouncements very frequently indeed. To say further it is not same in youth as as it was in childhood and in old age it will be different still.

If we really know, then we don’t act and we also know when we act. Why should our knowledge not enter our volition and control our action? Socrates and Plato ( who lived in BC )say rightly that to know what is good is to be good. That knowledge which we say we possess but which is powerless to dictate when we are acting, is not worthy of the name ‘knowledge’. It is mere sham.

We must understand and realise beyond iota of doubt that God is the reality and essence of all things and beings. He is the same all over, but to our jaundiced vision he appears as an infinite number of different and distinct things. This is delusion or ignorance of true reality. At higher spiritual stages, reality is visible in purer and more naked form. Things of one plane are true and real for that plane, but in the higher light of a subtler plane they become deceptive and unreal.

The phenomena of each plane are true for that plane.
Now if we compare the knowledge of this physical world, acquired through intellect, with the transcendent reality this world itself ceases to be real as a physical world, not do we have any existence as human beings.
All renowned saints of the past saints who were fully aware of the truth and reality of this world and higher subtler universes were butchered horrifyingly by the ignorant people because difference in their opinion of wrong vs right and Good vs Evil.

Once again I sincerely appreciate your invaluable sustained efforts being put to ignite the spark in the minds of readers of blogs and posts

    Regards,

    Harbans Singh Dhillon
