GOOD MORNING MESSAGE #255

Each one of us has a role to play….

Good morning friends,

Until I went to see a real bull-fight in Spain,
I used to think it is a very courageous sport.
Imagining that fighting a bull must be insane,
And a matador has to do it without support.

Now that I am wiser I know it’s more a play,
Than a brave fight it is made out to be;
In the three acts, the bull hardly has a say,
The final death of the bull is for all to see.

Similarly, God has given each one a role,
One has to perform to the best of ability.
None can see the entire play as a whole,
But we should accept our role in humility.

It is pointless coveting someone else’s part,
It doesn’t matter what you are given to enact.
Whatever is assigned, play it from the heart,
And then await the applause that you attract.

….we should play our part to the best of our abilities.

I have done a long stint in the Indian Navy that lasted for nearly thirty seven years; I rose as far as my somewhat rebellious and irreverent nature allowed me to. On retirement, in Feb 2010, the first thing that occurred to me, and those around me, was that I Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (you will find an article with this title in this blog) and hadn't lost all my noodles and hence thought of a blog titled 'This 'n That'. I later realised that every third blog is called 'This 'n That' and changed the name to 'Sunbyanyname'. I detest treading the beaten track. This blog offers me to air 'another way' of looking at things. The idea is not just to entertain but also to bring about a change. Should you feel differently, you are free to leave your comments. You can leave comments even when you agree and want to share your own experience about the topic of the blog post. Impudent or otherwise, I have never been insousciant and I am always concerned about the betterment of community, nation and the world. I hope the visitors of this blog would be able to discern it.

  1. Dear Ravi Sahib,
All your last 4 GM messages like others posted previously are very interesting and thought provoking. Your selection of words and composition of poetry is Superb to say the least. Since you are in the process of writing such an enjoyable and educative subject matters concerning the entire humanities, I have a request and proposal to make if you could consider the following fundamental problems of life or metaphysical considerations.
As we all know and see that a very large majority of people are only concerned with visible, palpable phenomenon; subtle ethereal entities have no attraction for them. They (Generally we all) are too much taken up with this world to think of the next, too much engrossed in material progress having utter disregard or paying very least/scant care for their spiritual welfare.
When we cast a glance around us, we find ourselves in a heterogeneous world with a keen struggle for life raging on all sides. All try to stay on here as long as they can and make their stay as pleasurable /comfortable as possible. With most of us this has become the very aim of our earthly existence. Instead of probing deep to the ultimate reality, we remain satisfied with phenomenon or appearance. We must pause to reflect on ourselves and try to find out what are we doing and where we are going.
There are several problems which meet us on the very threshold of consciousness and demand a solution. The various problems which needs to be considered and addressed are appended below:
What are we? What is all this that we see about us? What is the object of this creation? What is our function in it? Did we exist before our birth? If we did, what was our condition then? Shall we continue to be after death? If yes, then what state shall we find ourselves in? What is the reality or essence of our beings? What is this human life? Have we been sent here? If so, who has sent us and why? What is this phenomenon of the universe? Why is it like this and not otherwise? What is its deep reality or significance? Has it been created? If so, by whom? Who is that creator? What is his nature and being? Does God really exist? If so, what is his relationship with us? What is time? What is space? Is this whole fabric of the universe finally going to dissolve? If it is, why and when? What happen after this dissolution? What is death? What is beyond death? Is death really painful? If so, how can we avert and solve that mystery?
Dear Ravi Sahib you will agree that questions like these stare in the face ; we cannot pass them over. They must be answered if we want to lead a real waking life, if we desire our own true well-being and well-being of others.
Honestly speaking, for the last four days I have thinking very seriously and constantly whether I should write to you or not. Since you are a well read person and have researched GGS extensively, comprehensively and exhaustively I am sure you can or atleast endeavour to provide answers to the above mentioned problems which will also facilitate to enlighten keen readers of your beautiful blog and GM messages.
If you wish and permit I shall also post the same on your praiseworthy, well-informed, thought provoking and interesting blog for wider discussion and brain storming with a view to find some reasonable solution/answer. if not this will atleast pose a challenge to all the readers for thinking and exploring the truth hidden within each one of us. In GGS – Saint Pipa sahib says : Jo Brahmande soe Pinde, Jo Khoja so pave. ( Whatever exists in universe same is existing within our body). We have also read and heard that our body is the microcosm of the macrocosm.

    Profound Regard,

    Harbans Singh Dhillon
