GOOD MORNING MESSAGE #196

Why did God make colours?

From the first of June, 2018, I started writing Good Morning messages in the form of poems (Please read: ‘Good Morning Message #1‘).

The last such message was:’Good Morning Message #195‘.

Good morning friends,

The Sanskrit word Raaga means Colour, Dye or Hue,
Ancient Indians were not to philosophy of emotions new;
On every human emotion some Raagas were made,
You can think of emotions as Red, Green, Yellow and Blue.
God made colours in sync with our emotions,
When you see, eg, red, you’ve romantic notions.

What these ancient Indians discovered eons ago,
Is something now the world has come to know;
The stimulus of Raagas can change your emotions,
These can put you on a high when you’re feeling low.
Some when you hear or sing have curative powers,
Some can even in mid-summer bring cooling showers.

(The ancient Vedic culture of India believed in the propitiation of the rain gods to bring life to the parched plains of India where the Aryans settled in the pre-historic age. The Parjanya Sukta and the Aap Sukta of the Rigveda and the Varuna Sukta of the Yajurveda were sung in scientifically worked out metres and recited with specific musical notes to initiate the onset of rains each year before the season of showers set in. Musical geniuses in ancient India believed that specific notes, sung in certain phrases, could encourage the skies to darken and bring a downpour of rains. One of these is Raag Megh Malhar depicted above with Radha and Sri Krishna)

Colours represent Emotions, Feelings or Moods,
And so is true of the experience of other senses;
You may taste loving, sad, angry or curative foods,
Whereas some sounds can increase your defences.
Your diseases can be treated with aromas,
Some have even come out of long term comas.

Now imagine what sensory experiences can do,
And then graduate to going beyond these five;
God can’t be seen, heard, touched, tasted or smelt by you,
But suddenly, He comes before and within you alive.
What’s the Colour of God can anyone really tell?
Or what He’d look like, sound, taste or smell?*

Or, for that matter, other sensory experiences?

I have done a long stint in the Indian Navy that lasted for nearly thirty seven years; I rose as far as my somewhat rebellious and irreverent nature allowed me to. On retirement, in Feb 2010, the first thing that occurred to me, and those around me, was that I Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (you will find an article with this title in this blog) and hadn't lost all my noodles and hence thought of a blog titled 'This 'n That'. I later realised that every third blog is called 'This 'n That' and changed the name to 'Sunbyanyname'. I detest treading the beaten track. This blog offers me to air 'another way' of looking at things. The idea is not just to entertain but also to bring about a change. Should you feel differently, you are free to leave your comments. You can leave comments even when you agree and want to share your own experience about the topic of the blog post. Impudent or otherwise, I have never been insousciant and I am always concerned about the betterment of community, nation and the world. I hope the visitors of this blog would be able to discern it.
