GOOD MORNING MESSAGE #188

Happy New Year 2019!

From the first of June, 2018, I started writing Good Morning messages in the form of poems (Please read: ‘Good Morning Message #1‘).

The last such message was:’Good Morning Message #187‘.

Good morning Friends,

How nice it is to greet all of you,
On the first day of the new year too;
What this year has in store for us,
I think I have a fairly good clue.

As we step into this New Year,
Towards happiness God will steer,
Even those who’d earlier been sad,
And everyone would find some cheer.

Pains would be buried in the past,
Glory and prosperity are the forecast;
Those who were in search of success,
Would really experience it at last.

Peace would break out everywhere,
Wars and battles would become rare;
People’s privacy would be respected,
Everything won’t be everybody’s affair.

Yearning for quiet won’t be mocked,
Men won’t have their horns locked,
People would be able to air their thoughts,
Dissent won’t be automatically blocked.

No one would be hungry, naked and sad,
At one another no one would be mad;
People on meeting other people,
Would share the good time they’ve had.

Everyone would have the glow of Love,
No hawks, everyone would emulate a dove;
People would be forever grateful,
To the giver of such gifts, God above.

Wrongs would miraculously become right,
Dark would suddenly change to becoming bright;
Those who were trudging in endless tunnels,
Would actually, at the end of it, see light.

You and I as we usher in the New Year,
Must have some of these objectives clear;
So that we actually realise Tagore poem:
The one titled: ‘Where the Mind is without Fear’.

Each one of us actually has a responsibility,
That all this forecast doesn’t become futility;
We would do all within our means and hands,
To impart to this dream some credibility.

All of us can make this dream come true,
As long as we’ve the will to follow through;
Let everyone give it a serious thought,
That such a world as this is long overdue.

Rather than being cynical about it,
Let’s each of us to these goals commit;
That without doing anything at all,
We shall not in disdain and defeat quit.

Lets make it happy for everyone….

I have done a long stint in the Indian Navy that lasted for nearly thirty seven years; I rose as far as my somewhat rebellious and irreverent nature allowed me to. On retirement, in Feb 2010, the first thing that occurred to me, and those around me, was that I Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (you will find an article with this title in this blog) and hadn't lost all my noodles and hence thought of a blog titled 'This 'n That'. I later realised that every third blog is called 'This 'n That' and changed the name to 'Sunbyanyname'. I detest treading the beaten track. This blog offers me to air 'another way' of looking at things. The idea is not just to entertain but also to bring about a change. Should you feel differently, you are free to leave your comments. You can leave comments even when you agree and want to share your own experience about the topic of the blog post. Impudent or otherwise, I have never been insousciant and I am always concerned about the betterment of community, nation and the world. I hope the visitors of this blog would be able to discern it.

  1. Ravi sir, was greatly impressed by this poem from you. Not only this, but all the others written before this. I too dabble in poetry writing, and have written a few in our Naval magazines but I am just nowhere when I look at your creations. Such spontaneity is rare. What makes all of these verses great is that they adhere to the traditional set parameters of a poem, like meter, rhyme etc. Should compile these and publish it as a book.
